Library Hosts Battle of the Books
Two exciting competitions are being held at the Pickaway County District Public Library this year. Both competitions are called “Battle of the Books” – one for high school students on April 11 and one for middle school students on May 12.
“It is wonderful to see the students so excited about books and competing to see which team knows more about the titles they read,” says Michelle Callahan, outreach/public relations coordinator for the Pickaway County Library.
Teams earned points in a quiz-show format by correctly answering questions identifying of one of the 14 or more books on a reading list.
This year’s books included such titles as “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate, “All of the Above” by Shelley Pearsall, “The Lost Hero” by Rick Riordan, “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson and “Divergent” by Veronica Roth.
Competing high schools are Circleville, Logan Elm, Teays Valley, Westfall, Logan Hocking, Hilliard Bradley and Worthington.
Competing middle schools are Circleville, Westfall, Fairfield Christian, Groveport Madison, Canal Winchester, Logan Hocking, Hilliard Weaver and Hilliard Memorial.
“This is an awesome way to get kids reading and recognize them for their love of reading,” says Trent Roberts, media specialist for Circleville City Schools.
Lisa Campbell, media specialist at Teays Valley High School, says, “The students love this competition because they enjoy reading and discussing books with their peers.”
